GDPR – What you need to know

“GDPR is coming in May 2018” – Well not exactly, it is already here, but you MUST demonstrate compliance by 25th May 2018.

What is GDPR?
The EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the result of four years of work by the EU to bring data protection legislation into line with new, previously unforeseen ways that data is now used.

Why do we need GDPR?
The Data Protection Act was passed in 1998 and was a direct result of European legislation passed in 1995. That means we have had the same data protection regime for the past 20 years! The world has changed a lot since then- Google launched in 1998, now they process 40,000 search queries every second.

In school terms, things have changed massively over the past couple of decades, too. From a mere 800,000 computers in UK schools in 1998 to several million now; we process more data than ever before.

Why the workshops?
Becoming GDPR compliant can be daunting and a massive task for schools.

With that in mind, working in conjunction with Pepperells solicitors and GDPR 365, we’re running GDPR workshops to ensure you have all the information and tools to ensure you are compliant by 25th May.

We encourage all Head Teachers, Business managers or DPO’s to attend these workshops. You will leave armed with an action plan and a clear picture of how the new GDPR regulations will affect your organisation, and a solution to tackling the huge task ahead.
